September 30, 2015 by Rossie Leave a Comment

The CRC has copies of the 5 Healthy Towns Community Reads book available!

We’ll keep them out in the hallway or office during our open hours.

The books are free. Pick one up, read it, and pass it along.

This year’s theme is “avoid unhealthy substances.”

Past books and themes:

  • In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan — “eat better”
  • A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson — “move more”
  • The Fault in Our Stars by John Green — “make healthy connections”

Book summary:

In the summer of 1971, Jack Gantos was an aspiring writer looking for adventure, cash for college tuition, and a way out of a dead-end job. For ten thousand dollars, he recklessly agreed to help sail a sixty-foot yacht loaded with a ton of hashish from the Virgin Islands to New York City, where he and his partners sold the drug until federal agents caught up with them.

Hole in My Life is an honest and revealing personal account from a prizewinning author of over thirty books for young people. While alcohol and marijuana distracted him from his goal of being a writer and landed him in federal prison, this story comes with an important message about not letting your mistakes define you or keep you from your goals.
